Amazon is considered one of the most prominent online marketplaces in the world. It sets up stores as an online bookseller when purchasing anything from the Internet was an entirely new concept for many of us and now after two decades, the company has become more valuable than any other online marketplace.

When Did Amazon Get Popular?

Amazon got its first sale in July 1995, sending one very curious customer the book “Fluid Concepts & Creative Analogies: Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought.”

In May 1997, Amazon declared its IPO and started trading on NASDAQ Under “AMZN.” Later that year, the company launched one-click shopping, that enables customers to promote their online shopping experience.

Amazon started its first international sites, Amazon.co.uk (UK) and Amazon.de (Germany) in October 1998. The company now attends customers through at least 11 various retail websites crossing the globe.

Amazon had grown a long way from being just a bookstore. In 2003, the company introduced new categories, including sporting goods, outdoor equipment, gourmet food, health, and personal care products.

When Amazon.com famously began as a bookseller, Bezos fought from its start that the site was not only a retailer of consumer products. He claimed that Amazon.com was a technology company whose business was simplifying online purchases for consumers.
